But for the Grace of God

This time of year can be especially difficult. The daylight is shorter. The weather is typically colder. Special gatherings are taking place all around.

My heart is tender to suffering of every kind. I’m sure you’ve experienced loss and suffering. I have had my share of loss as well.

Reading through my journal I came across words God gave me I believe to lovingly and sweetly encouraged me to continue to move forward, keep pressing on, trust Him and know He will make everything right. He knows best.

He made us in His image. He sent His only Son to Earth to experience the love, relationship, joy, and even grief and betrayal that we experience.

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created him; male and female … Genesis 1:27 (ESV)

Nothing takes God by surprise. Life sure does take us by surprise at times, but not God.

Regardless of the type of suffering you may be walking through, I won’t offer you platitudes. I will, however, encourage you to rely fully on His truth, the Word of God.

During one of my most difficult trials God gave me Psalm 91 through two different people to draw strength from, my best friend and my Stephens Minister. It is one of the longest Psalms so, to save room I won’t insert it here. When you read it I hope you too will find it beautiful and victorious as I do. It seems to seal each crack in every heart that reads it mending it into a state of supernatural healing especially if you feel alone, betrayed or under attack. This Psalm will most certainly love on you and empower you to hold your head high, square your shoulders back and give you the strength, His strength, to move forward.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

What scripture verse has carried you through a difficult time?

If your currently struggling please know I am praying for you. I may not know your name or circumstance, but God does. I do know He loves you and He will right the wrongs of your life.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good for those who are called according to His purpose Romans 8:28 (ESV)

I also know a glimpse of the plans He has for you and your family . . .

‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

As I lay my head on my pillow tonight I’m praying for you, for swift change for the best leaving no doubt that only God could be responsible. He loves you and so do I.

Don’t forget to share the scripture or scriptures that carry or have carried you through a difficult time. That verse could very well by the one that blesses another in their time of need.

Stay safe and God bless you!

  1. I have been through rough times too, dear missy.
Unfortunately, I cried, I got depressed and after that I prayed, a lot.
Sometimes when I don’t know what to do or what path should I take I pray, I know the light is somewhere behind the corner, I just got to look deeper and have faith.
Life can be full of misery and sadness, but in the end, the answer comes from God.
    Thanks for sharing! ❤️

As a ‘Senior Citizen’, I love Psalms 91. For the older we get, the closer to Our God we should get. Of course, we should stay close at any age.:) But the needs change when one gets ‘old’. TY

  3. This is an incredibly beautiful post. Thank you so much for sharing.
    One of my favorites:
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalms 27:14 KJV

  4. When my kids were little we had several teenage girls who would take turns babysitting them when my husband and I needed to go someplace, like on a date. One of those girls is probably in her 50’s now, and she makes beautiful quilts. So, about five years ago I asked her if she would make me a scripture quilt (I paid her for it), and she agreed. So, I went through my Bible and I looked at all the verses I had highlighted or underlined and dated that were special to me and some that had ministered to me during very difficult times in my life, too. And, I gave those to her to put in the quilt.

The quilt is beautiful! She hand-stitched every letter of these scriptures on there, and they were not short verses, either, and there are a total of 24 scriptures, too, which had meant something to me throughout the years. And, now I sleep with that quilt on me each night. And, sometimes I will glance down at one of those scriptures, and God will again minister his grace to my heart.

These are just a few of the ones God used in my life when I was going through trials and tribulations and persecutions:

    Psalm 18:18-19
    1 Kings 18:37
    2 Corinthians 4:16-17
    Psalm 34:4-5
    Jeremiah 1:17-19

    1. I can’t even begin to articulate how your quilt has touched me and I’ve not seen it yet. What a beautiful project that, I can only imagine, must be priceless to you both. The quilt will pass through the generations as well. You’ve made my day and blessed my heart. Thank you for sharing and for the scriptures as well. Both I will treasure. Thanks Sue! Hugs & love💕😘🤗to you and your family. 💙

  5. Thanks for sharing this post! I biblical verse that consoles me during tough times – “Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
    I will strengthen you,
    Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 😇
