Faceless

Today my husband Mark and I went to the gun range to target shoot and qualify. While the paper silhouette targets are faceless, stationary and not a threat of life or limb they serve in the preparation and practice target shooting for if/when the silhouettes are exchanged for an actual intruder. God willing we will never be called to defend our very life or the life/lives of our family.

8 Steps to ready yourself for target practice.

1.) Load your magazine.

2.) Ready your weapon.

3.) Assure a firm grip.

4.) Stand, knees bent and on the balls of your feet.

5.) Aim, breathe, squeeze …

6.) fire – fire – fire – fire – fire

7.) Secure your weapon.

8.) Repeat!

We must plan, prepare, practice should we be faced with a threat, an attacker, an assailant.

Just as we plan, prepare, and practice for an attacker in the physical world, so must we prepare daily for the schemes of the enemy.

“… so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:11 (NLT)

The Message translation says it like this…

“After all, we don’t want to unwittingly give Satan an opening for yet more mischief—we’re not oblivious to his sly ways!” 2 Corinthians 2:11 (MSG)

So, how do we protect ourselves from Satan?

The Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the Ephesians explaining it all in great detail. He was an amazing writer with the ability and gift to translate his words into pictures. Much like many of you fellow bloggers. I’ve read your poetry, prose, and colorfully creative posts. You are gifted.

The Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

Ephesians 6:10-20 (NIV)

Just as I did today aiming at my target and preparing to fire I will do this each and every day to fight the faceless rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. You should too.

8 Steps to ready yourself against attack.

1.) Stand firm

2.) Put on your belt, breastplate, and Roman sandals.

3.) Take up your shield of faith, and helmet of salvation

4.) Take up your Sword of the Spirit. (The Bible)

5.) Pray in the Spirit.

6.) Breathe

7.) Keep praying.

8.) Repeat!

So, tonight let’s lay out our armor of God in preparation of getting dressed in the Armor tomorrow morning, and every morning thereafter. When we are prepared, dressed and equipped we are better able to protect our family, our friends, and defend our faith. After all, we are daughters and sons of the One True King. We are royalty.

Stand firm, breathe, study the Word of God, keep praying and repeat!

God bless you all. We love you.
