The Mind is a Very Powerful Thing

The Mind is a Very Powerful Thing

The mind is a very powerful thing. Albert Einstein said it best with his quote, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t you’re absolutely right.”

If I was asked to describe the struggle between life on earth and eternity and could only share one scripture with others it would be this one.

A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance. John 10:10 (HCSB)

Above are two very real promises. One promise is from the enemy. He promises to come only to steal and kill and to destroy. And that he will.

The other is the promise from our Father. He promises to come so that we may have life and have it in abundance. Make no mistake that it is a fact that our Father in heaven will return again. He’s returning for us.

I’ve heard it said that the enemy already knows the truth of our destiny. What a great victory it is for him if he can convince us we are less than, we are not worthy, we are ineffective, not gifted and useless, etc. Satan knows those are lies, but if he can manipulate our minds and take up residence even for a brief moment the seed of doubt will be planted. If we believe them allowing them to be watered, nurtured, and entertained we become paralyzed like a deer in the headlights.

On the wall of Living Waters is a quote from one of my favorite books and stories in the Bible.

Consider this! Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created. Esther 4:14

I truly believe the enemy would not find you an important person of interest if you did not have such a specific, intentional, and oh so important call on your life. Consider that it is quite favorable that your current position and advancement for the Kingdom of God is a serious threat to the enemy and he knows it. He’s calling in the troops, hitting the Defcon 5 button, alarms and sirens blazing.

If this feels like you, go look in the mirror, push your shoulders back, standing tall with your head held high and scream, “How do ya like that Satan?”

Give God the glory, honor, and praise that He so richly deserves. He’s working in and through you and big things are coming. Stay prayed up. Link arms with other brothers and sisters who can walk along side of you and advance. I’m excited to hear ALL God is doing in and through you.

Diligently praying for you!

  1. Excellent writing and very timely for the days we are now living in! I wrote a paragraph here earlier to share my personal testimony on this topic, but I don’t see it. So, more espresso and I will write it again! Prayers for you, your family and ministry. Blessings!

    • Thank you very much Rick. Your words are encouraging and a blessing. Our prayers for you, your family and ministry as well. πŸ€—

  2. Thank you ! Let’s try this again now that I’ve had too much coffee! While writing my first book, I sopped for 6 months half way through. I didn’t see it as writer’s block, as I was writing my blog several times each week! So, on a walk and talk with my spiritual mentor ( I had walked away from faith in college for many years…during this time, Ken and His wife let me know they were praying for me and would invite me with a ” kind and gentle invitation ” to join them in church. I politely declined for many many years. When, I explained my six month lack of progress, Ken prayed and thought about all the possible factors which could cause this to happen! In a few minutes, he said, ” Rick, you are under spiritual attack. ” At first I was in denial, but he explained it beautifully: If the enemy thought you were writing a terrible first book, he would hope I would continue writing. If the enemy sees your book as a way to gently introduce people, he must believe it is very good!” What had the enemy done? Filled my mind with thoughts of doubts! Constantly ” You a writer? Who are you kidding? No one has ever heard of you, you are completely unknown as an author! People buy and read Devotionals written by the real authors…you know their names in the devotional sector ” Why are you wasting your time, writing something no one will buy or read other than a few friends and maybe some of your family? You are not worthy to be a writer!” WOW! No wonder I stopped! The enemy had succeeded in filling my heart with self doubt where there used to be a happy self-confidence which took my focus away from what I received from God in prayer: ” Write a daily devotional ! ” ken prayed with me that day for God’s Holy Spirit to drive the enemy to that dry barren place! He prayed for God’s Holy Spirit to fill that now vacant space in my heart! There is a link on my log to my Amazon author page, where not only one but two of my devotionals can be previewed and purchased! This is what I tried to share this morning. It must be good! It didn’t get posted! We can pray for all of those distracted by the enemy to join us in communal prayer! Once God’s Holy Spirit fills your heart, the enemy may return but is battled away! In prayer, I received a slightly different message this year; ” Write a Book of Poetry! ” A sample is currently on my blog from last week titled: The Soull Releaser. Ok ,time for more coffee and a prayer this comment gets posted! Thank you for giving me space to share my testimony!

    • Absolutely incredible testimony of the faithfulness of God and mentors in our lives. The enemy is lazy but effective sometimes. He does what works. I’m sure your thoughts may mirror many of the bloggers and writers including myself. Which publisher do you use, and are you pleased with them? Thank you for sharing!πŸ˜€

  3. Thank you for your kind words! The devotional space is dominated by the big names. One publisher told me” the devotional space could use a fresh voice! ” I agree with that, however, the big names equate to big profits, so why take a chance on an unknown author? I contracted with a company ( listed in both books ) to do ” all the work”, once I gave them my completed manuscript. I retain the rights and they exceeded my expectations in terms of service and quality! I pray for anyone who is considering a form of self publishing to seriously look at how they will market their book! Are they prepared, as a new and unknown author to devote time and energy to market their book? For my book of poetry, I am seeking a traditional agent as that ” space ” is more narrow than devotionals! I see my rejection letters of affirmation that I am trying and not giving up! Prayers for you, your family and writing ministry!
