I remember the darkest of days where all I wanted was my joy back. I remember the days very well. I remember them NOT to dwell on them, not to pity myself because of them, or to sleep among the ashes that surrounded me, but to count it all joy (James 1:2-8) that ALL of “it”, and ALL of “this” was necessary. ALL that was happening to me He worked in my favor (Romans 8:26-28). He will continue to work it all together for the good. It’s a truth and a promise that we all can boldly stand on.
What seemed like the darkest of times, in that wilderness, King Jesus was covering, protecting and preparing me for the path He laid before me. No matter what happens in the future I will always remember what He delivered me from. No matter the circumstances, the fires or the trials that come before me the one question I will NOT entertain is IF He can, but WHEN HE will!
My gratitude pours out in the beauty I am walking in today. I know it would not be possible if I had tightly gripped my burnt ashes and didn’t let go. I know it would not be possible to walk in beauty had I not laid the ashes at His feet and gave Him ALL of me.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:26-28 (NIV)
The Year of the Lord’s Favor
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 61:1-3 (NIV)
When the fires in your life seem the hottest, when the raging waters seem to peak the highest, please know your beauty is coming. It’s coming sooner than you think. So, open the palms of your hands. Let the wind wisk away the muck, the hurt, the heartbreak. Take a deep breath and boldly run into the fire. Tilt your head back and float on top of the crest of the seas my friend. Jesus has made a way of favor, provision and beauty for you, but you can’t keep your ashes too. Trust Him and fully let go. Free fall safely into His arms. He is waiting…
