Imagine standing in front of a raging river, one so swollen that it has surpassed flood stage. Dangerous, powerful, roaring, unpredictable water.
At first glance, it may appear too dangerous of a circumstance to step forward. When in reality it is far more dangerous to not step forward in faith.
Sometimes God calls us to move in our own courageous act of faith requiring our feet to touch the raging waters BEFORE He moves in His sovereign faithfulness.
In the book of Joshua, chapter 3, God told Joshua to instruct the priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant to stand in the water of the Jordan, which was at flood stage mind you.
“Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’” Joshua 3:8 (NIV)
I don’t know about you, but for me, my initial thoughts would go something like this, “God, You want me to do WHAT? OK Lord, do you see what is in front of me? Do you see how fast rushing the waters are? You do know I can’t swim or swim well at all right!?!” Of course God knows. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient.
I Am With You
Just as God did through Joshua He is more than capable to exalt each one of us, for everyone to see, through our circumstances, strongholds, trials, set-backs, adversity so that the others may know God is with us. God can and will do this ONLY IF” we are obedient to walk out what He has instructed us to do.
The Rest Of The Story
So, what happened when the priests touched their toes into the river Jordan?
“As soon as the priests feet touched water’s edge the water retreated and fell back revealing dry ground.”
If you’re like me you might be sitting on the edge of your seat just waiting to hear what happened next, well…
The People Crossed
“And there they stood; those priests carrying the Chest of the Covenant stood firmly planted on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground. Finally the whole nation was across the Jordan, and not one wet foot.” Joshua 3:17 (MSG)
God proved more than faithful through Moses.
God proved more than faithful through Joshua.
God will prove more than faithful through each of us if and when we do our part.
What raging waters is God calling you to put your feet into?
How will you respond?
Will you prove faithful and trust God?
He is waiting.
