What you focus on most you will see.
Silently, to yourself, name just one insecurity you have. Think about it for a moment. Don’t go too far thinking about it. Now, think of a few times where maybe you have believed others were talking about you, a boss was angry with you, a spouse or partner was lying to you or a friend was mad at you. Did you ever come to a confirmed conclusion that others really were not talking about you; your boss has personal things he/she is walking through and they are not mad at you; your partner was telling the truth and not lying; your friend is going through a really hard time and was not mad at you at all – in fact, nothing could be further from the truth?
I don’t know about you, but when I have focused on things that I believe were true they seemed to be magnified at every turn, only to come to the conclusion I was wrong. In some cases I was REALLY wrong, so way off base I was embarrassed I wasted so much time and energy thinking, fretting, talking to others, etc. I’ve learned to take it to God first. Don’t get me wrong, I can still struggle with this one, but not nearly as often. When I take it to Him first I am freed quickly.
Today, right now, at this very moment what is your “this”? Is it a broken relationship, financial worries, a wayward child, death of a loved one, or are you walking through newly diagnosed?
Whatever your “this” is.. He’s got this!
For centuries the enemy has been perfecting his aim and release of his fiery arrows. Jesus was fired upon in the desert. Our worries, fears, and heartbreak shine a spotlight onto our weaknesses exposing our vulnerabilities and at times rendering us speechless, immobilized, fearful. Guaranteed the devil will provide multiple opportunities and circumstances for the images you believe to be real to manifest. Just as a mirage of a body of water in the desert is real so can our thoughts be, our beliefs, our conclusions, our truth.
The only way to get rid of a thought is to replace it with another thought. I can’t tell you what to think. The devil can’t tell you what to think. God can’t tell you what to think. Y’all can’t tell me what to think, okay, you get the point. We have free will. It is solely up to us to replace every negative thought and cover it with scripture.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV)
Jesus defeated the devil in three scriptures. He didn’t tell the devil, “Oh come on Satan, you know what God says.” Jesus didn’t have to grab His bible and frantically thumb through the books to find the right one (sometimes that’s me). Boldly, quickly, powerfully and without hesitation Jesus deflected the fiery arrows with scripture, after scripture, after scripture. It tells us so in Luke 4.
Test #1 playing on His hunger
Jesus defeated with – Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to really live.” (Luke 4:4 MSG)
Test #2 of authority and to misuse His power
Jesus defeated with – Deuteronomy: “Worship the Lord your God and only the Lord your God. Serve him with absolute single-heartedness.” (Luke 4:8 MSG)
Test #3 tempting the Lord
Jesus defeated with – “Yes,” said Jesus, “ and it’s also written, ‘Don’t you dare tempt the Lord your God'” (Luke 4:12 MSG)
What was the result? The Devil fled, for now. We too have that power and authority to make the enemy flee from us. Some battles are much harder, okay, really hard.
The retreat of the Devil is temporary. Be prepared, be willing, be armed for he will return, most likely when we are not at our strongest. I’m sure you’ve experienced that just like I have.
The Armor of God
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. (Ephesians 6:10-20 NIV)
Let’s armor up together so we are prepared the next time he comes at us through our thoughts, feelings, emotions. And remember, whatever your “this” is.. He’s got this!
Love y’all, Mxo
