Have you ever heard it said, “Do not expect from man that only God can deliver.”? I have too. People may fall short of our expectations and, whether it be intention or not, may break their promises. We will fall short of others expectations as well. We are human. It happens.
“Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute, and love without stopping.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (MSG)
All Scripture is God breathed. It is the ointment we need to heal our wounds. It is the only antidote we need to inoculate us against human shortcomings. Keeping our eyes on Jesus and our faces in the Word of God. Meditating on His truth will keep us at peace and help us to love unconditionally.
Your Face Mirrors Your Heart
“You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 (MSG)
My favorite version of this verse is found in the New International Version translation.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)
It would be lovely to only surround ourselves with others that think like we think, believe like we believe, are passionate about the same passions as we have. That’s easy, however, we are called to love everyone without exception, hesitation or reservation. In Romans 13:8 the message is clear.
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.” Romans 13:8 (NIV)
I am grateful our Lord does not get disappointed in me, in my shortcomings, in my failures, worry, doubt and unbelief. Rather, He continually and relentlessly pursues me and unconditionally pours His grace over all my iniquities, just as He does for you.
Through any hurt, pain or relationship strain, the Grace of God is sufficient.
Trust Him. He is waiting…
